KATHMANDU, MARCH 25 Bird flu has been confirmed in crows found dead on the Tribhuvan University premises in Kirtipur, prompting authorities to step up containment measures. A joint team from Kirtipur Municipality and the Animal Health Department collected dozens of dead crows from the area and buried them. Laboratory tests on samples confirmed the presence of avian influenza, including H1N1 and H9 strains, officials said. According to the municipality, 68 dead crows were initially collected, with samples sent for testing. Following confirmation, additional carcasses were disposed of, and monitoring has been intensified. Officials said no other bird species were found dead in the area, but warned that controlling the spread is more challenging due to the mobility of wild birds. The municipality has also issued a notice restricting the transport of poultry feed within Kirtipur. (With inputs from RSS)
