Over 63 HoR members take oath in mother tongues

KATHMANDU, MARCH 26 Of the total 275 members of the House of Representatives (HoR), more than 63 lawmakers took their oath in their mother tongues on Thursday. Senior-most HoR member Arjun Narsingh KC administered the oath to the members at the Federal Parliament building in Singha Durbar. HoR member Yagya Bahadur Bogati took the oath in the Achhami language, while Mohammad Ishtiyak Rae took it in Abadhi. Akriti Awasthi and Dipak Bohora took the oath in Doteli; Ganga Chhantyal in Chhantyal; and Karisma Kathariya in Kathariya Tharu. Similarly, Nishcal Rai took the oath in the Chamling language, and Parshuram Tamang in Tamang. Kant Chaudhari, Ashok Kumar Chaudhari, Gita Chaudhari, Pushpa Kumari Chaudhari, Pramila Kumari Gachchhadar, and Surendra Chaudhari took the oath in Tharu. Lawmakers who took the oath in Nepalbhasa included Anushka Shrestha, Kulbhakta Shakya, Kushum Maharjan, Kapa Maharjan, Biraj Bhakta Maharjan, Ganga Laxmi Awal, Buddha Ratna Maharjan, Madan Krishna Shrestha, and Rukesh Ranjit. Those who took the oath in the Bajjika language were Nitima Bhandari (Karki), Rabin Mahato, Rabindra Patel, and Rajesh Kumar Chaudhari. Ain Bahadur Mahar took the oath in the Bajhangi language. Madhav Raj Rai took the oath in the Bantawa language, while Kanhaiya Baniya opted for the Baniya language. Those who took the oath in Bhojpuri included Arbinda Sah, Buddhi Prasad Pant, and Sushil Kumar Kanu. Renuwa Kaucha Magar took the oath in Magar Kham, while Pramod Kumar Mahato and Raj Kishor Mahato took it in Magahi. A large group of lawmakers-including Ankita Thakur, Asha Jha, Ujjwal Kumar Jha, Dipak Kumar Saha, Kamini Kumari, Jog Kumar Barbariya Yadav, Tapeshwor Yadav, Narendra Saha Kalwar, Nisha Mehta, Purushottam Suprabhat Yadav, Manish Jha, Matrika Prasad Yadav, Ramaji Yadav, Rubi Kumari, Shambhu Kumar Yadav, Shiva Shankar Yadav, and Sitaram Sah-took the oath in Maithili. Kripa Ram Rana took the oath in the Ranatharu language, while Purna Prasad Limbu, Santosh Subba, and Suhang Nembang used the Limbu language for their solemn declaration as HoR members. Khushbu Oli took the oath in Sanskrit. Initially, 62 lawmakers had registered to take the oath in their mother tongues, according to Assistant Spokesperson of the HoR, Anant Prasad Koirala. However, the number increased later, and the exact count of languages used for the oath-taking ceremony is still being finalized, he added.
