Minister Pokharel takes charge, pledges education sector reforms

KATHMANDU, MARCH 27 The newly appointed Minister for Education, Science and Technology, as well as Youth and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, assumed office today at the ministry in Singha Durbar. On the occasion, Minister Pokharel said he is acutely 'sensitive' to the mandate entrusted to him by the people and pledged to work towards fulfilling his party's commitments within the next five years. He stated that he regards the trust of the voters as a solemn responsibility. 'We have understood the votes we received not merely as support, but as a responsibility,' he said. Minister Pokharel further noted that there are plans to scale up the successful programmes implemented in Kathmandu Metropolitan City to the national level as part of broader education sector reforms. He added that priority will be accorded to enhancing teacher capacity, upgrading school infrastructure, implementing result-oriented programmes, and ensuring that scholarship distribution is transparent and systematic. Minister Pokharel also expressed his commitment to making Nepal's education and sports sectors more competitive, well-organised, and results-driven, in line with modern technological advancements and evolving global trends.
