KATHMANDU, MARCH 28 The police have started conducting health tests on former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, as well as former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak. According to police sources, additional steps will be taken following the health examination. Following the health examination, both of them will be able to be detained by the police today. The government attorney's office is unable to have them appear in court for an extension of their remand because it is Saturday, which is a public holiday. As a result, it's likely that they will both be detained today. In the meantime, Lekhak has stated that he will fight the political and legal battle against his arrest, claiming that he was arrested in a politically motivated and biassed manner. Lekhak made this statement after being arrested by police at his home in Katunje, Bhaktapur, on Saturday morning. 'My arrest was motivated by bias and a political grudge. I am prepared to fight the political battle against it,' he said. Meanwhile, KP Sharma Oli, the former prime minister, was arrested this morning. He was arrested at his home in Gundu, Bhaktapur, and taken to the District Police Complex in Bhadrakali. The commission, led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, formed to investigate the Genji protests on September 8 and 9, recommended that former Prime Minister KP Oli and Ramesh Lekhak, as well as Central Security Committee officials, be investigated in criminal cases. The report is said to have recommended a variety of actions to high-ranking officials in the then-government and security agencies. The report's details were leaked to the media a few days ago. The government made them public after the leak. The Council of Ministers, led by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra (Balen) Shah, decided to implement the report immediately, among other things, at its first meeting on Friday. Reports soon surfaced of talks between senior security officials and Sudan Gurung, the recently appointed Home Minister, at different points in time. Regarding the arrest of the former prime minister and former home minister, Minister Gurung posted a post on his Facebook page. Home Minister Sudan Gurung first wrote in English, 'A promise is a promise,' in a Facebook post that included a picture of himself honouring the body of a person who was killed during the Gen Z movement and was kept at Brahmanal in Pashupati Aryaghat for the final rites. 'Nobody is above the law. We have apprehended former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and outgoing Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. This is not vengeance against anyone; it is simply the beginning of justice.' He has also expressed his belief that the country will now take a new direction.
