Govt to form high-powered property probe committee

KATHMANDU, MARCH 29 The government has announced plans to form a high-powered committee within 15 days to investigate assets of political leaders and senior officials in a bid to curb corruption and ensure accountability. According to the governance reform agenda, the committee will include experts in law, finance, revenue and investigation. It will initially probe assets of officials holding public office since 2006/07, followed by investigations covering earlier periods. The government also plans to restructure the National Vigilance Centre within 30 days to strengthen transparency and good governance.
