Home Minister Urges Timely Preparedness for Monsoon Risks

KATHMANDU, MARCH 29 Sudhan Gurung, Minister for Home Affairs, has instructed the concerned authorities to undertake timely preparedness measures as part of disaster response efforts to enhance public safety during the monsoon season. Speaking at a programme organised at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Sunday, Minister Gurung directed officials to ensure that adequate workforce and essential equipment remain on standby for an effective response. He emphasised that the State must not hesitate to mobilise all available resources for urgent rescue operations. 'Protecting the lives of citizens is the State's foremost responsibility. It is therefore imperative to remain prepared for all types of disasters,' the newly appointed Home Minister asserted. After reviewing the Authority's ongoing activities, Minister Gurung underscored the importance of incorporating disaster management-related content into school and college curricula. He also stressed the need to provide students with basic training in disaster preparedness. On the occasion, Chief Executive of the Authority, Dinesh Prasad Bhatta, delivered a presentation outlining the Authority's ongoing efforts, future priorities, and the challenges it faces in disaster risk reduction and management.
