KATHMANDU, MARCH 30 The Mechi Highway has been blocked again after a fresh landslide struck the road section in Ilam on Sunday morning. The highway, which had resumed one-way operation late Saturday night after clearing an earlier landslide, was obstructed again following another slide, disrupting vehicular movement. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Bhandari at the District Police Office, Ilam, the latest landslide has completely blocked the road, and efforts are underway to reopen it. The incident occurred at Bagkhor in Rong Rural Municipality-4, where road maintenance work was ongoing. A dry landslide carrying rocks fell from above, burying a truck (Province 1-01-001 Kha 4334) heading from Ilam to Jhapa, police said. Earlier, the highway had been partially reopened for one-way traffic from around 10:50 pm after clearing the previous obstruction. However, the renewed landslide has further complicated the situation. (With inputs from RSS)
