KATHMANDU, APRIL 1 In the latest rescue and repatriation effort, eight more Nepali nationals stranded in Cambodia have been brought back to Nepal with the initiative of the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok and support from Cambodian authorities. According to the embassy, the individuals had travelled to Cambodia after being lured by agents and were later forced into illegal online scam operations, casinos and other unlawful activities. Some were also residing without valid visas. The rescued individuals departed Cambodia on March 31 and arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport, today, with facilitation support from the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Cambodia. The embassy said similar efforts are ongoing to rescue and repatriate other Nepalis stranded or facing difficult conditions in Cambodia. It has urged Nepali citizens in Cambodia-especially those without visas or involved in problematic situations-to immediately contact the embassy or NRNA representatives for assistance. The embassy also highlighted that many victims have reported their passports being confiscated by companies or lost during transfers between scam centres. In such cases, it provides free one-way travel permits to facilitate their return. Reiterating its advisory, the embassy urged Nepalis not to travel abroad for employment without proper labour approval and to avoid falling prey to false promises of quick earnings in countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.
