Zero Waste Exhibition 2026

KATHMANDU, APRIL 1 The 'Zero Waste Exhibition 2026,' aimed at promoting sustainable practices and circular economy solutions, concluded successfully in Kathmandu after a two-day run. Organised at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts on March 30–31, the event marked the International Day of Zero Waste and brought together stakeholders from across sectors. The exhibition was jointly organised by Rotary International District 3292 along with its affiliated Rotary, Rotaract and Interact clubs, in collaboration with the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG). It received support from the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction under the Ministry of Urban Development, as well as United Nations Global Compact Nepal and Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness (ECCA), with partnership from HECAF 360 and Blue Waste to Value. Held under the theme 'Be the Change - Reduce Waste, Reuse More, and Embrace Recycling,' the exhibition showcased innovative enterprises, technologies and practices focused on recycling, upcycling and sustainable resource use. It also featured live demonstrations and do-it-yourself (DIY) solutions aimed at reducing waste and encouraging green entrepreneurship. More than 600 visitors, including students, youth, entrepreneurs and members of the public, attended the free-entry event over the two days. The exhibition was inaugurated by District Governor Binod Koirala. A key highlight was a panel discussion titled 'Beyond the Bin: Redesigning Systems for a Zero Waste Future,' which brought together policymakers, private sector representatives and environmental experts. Among the speakers were Joint Secretary Navaraj Pyakurel, Blue Waste to Value CEO Nabin Bikash Maharjan, and UN Global Compact Nepal Chair Samir Thapa. The event concluded with a closing ceremony addressed by District Governor-elect Vishnu Bahadur Karkee, while District Governor Koirala attended as chief guest, stressing the need for continued collaboration in sustainable waste management. Miss Nepal World 2023 Srichchha Pradhan also spoke at the event, highlighting the role of youth, responsible consumption and behavioural change in achieving a zero-waste future. Organisers said such multi-stakeholder initiatives are crucial to tackling challenges such as unmanaged waste, plastic pollution and inefficient resource use, while promoting innovation and transition towards a circular economy.
