Nepal raises issue of affected nationals in Portugal during ministerial call

KATHMANDU, APRIL 2 Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal held a telephone conversation with Portugal's Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel, discussing issues concerning Nepali nationals and bilateral cooperation. During the call, Minister Khanal urged his Portuguese counterpart to reconsider the status of over 2,000 Nepali nationals in Portugal who are facing legal and procedural difficulties due to fake stamps found on their genuine documents, particularly police clearance certificates reportedly attested in New Delhi. In response, Rangel appreciated the contribution of the Nepali community to Portugal's economy and assured that he would take up the matter with relevant authorities to review the cases with a humane approach. Rangel also congratulated Khanal on assuming office as Nepal's Foreign Minister and extended best wishes for a successful tenure. The two sides expressed satisfaction over the state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in areas including hydropower, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure development and information technology, according to the press release issued by MoFA on Wednesday.
