KATHMANDU, APRIL 8 An arrest warrant has reportedly been issued against former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his spouse, former foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba, in connection with a money laundering case. According to the reports, the warrant was obtained from the Kathmandu District Court as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged illicit wealth accumulation. Legal procedures are underway, but the couple has not been detained as they are currently abroad for medical treatment, reportedly in Hong Kong. The case is linked to earlier developments following a fire incident at their Budhanilkantha residence in September, during which partially burnt cash was reportedly recovered, drawing public attention and prompting further investigation. Following this, if the accused fail to appear, further steps, including the issuance of an international red corner notice, may be pursued as per legal provisions. A red corner notice is circulated by Interpol at the request of member countries to seek the arrest and extradition of wanted individuals. It is issued based on a valid arrest warrant from a competent court. In Nepal, the National Central Bureau Kathmandu, a division of Nepal Police, acts as the liaison with Interpol, facilitating cross-border cooperation and information exchange in criminal investigations across its 190 member countries.
