Nepal welcomes US–Iran two-week ceasefire, urges continued dialogue

KATHMANDU, APRIL 8 The Government of Nepal has welcomed the recent announcement of a two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as a constructive step towards de-escalating tensions in West Asia. In a statement, the government said the agreement provides an important opportunity for dialogue, diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of differences. It added that Nepal views the development as a positive step towards promoting peace and stability in the region, while reiterating its consistent stance in favour of the peaceful settlement of disputes. The government also expressed concern over the humanitarian consequences of the conflict, underscoring the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of civilians affected by the hostilities. Nepal further stated that it remains supportive of all efforts by the international community aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
