KATHMANDU, APRIL 22 The western and central Terai across the country will swelter through another day of heatwave conditions on Wednesday, with Bhairahawa forecast to record the country's highest temperatures of the day, between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius, as the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warned that extreme heat will persist across much of the lowlands. Nepalgunj, Janakpur and Simara are all expected to see maximums between 39 and 41 degrees, while Dipayal and Dhangadi will hover between 38 and 40 degrees. Heatwave conditions are likely across the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim Provinces, with hot day conditions extending to the lowlands and valleys of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces as well. Kathmandu, by contrast, will see partly cloudy skies with daytime temperatures between 29 and 31 degrees and a cooler night at 14 to 16 degrees. While the plains bake, a different story is unfolding in the hills and mountains. The Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces will be generally cloudy through the day, with light to moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning possible at a few places in Koshi's Himalayan and Hilly regions and at some locations in the Himalayan zones of Bagmati and Gandaki. The rest of the country is expected to remain mainly fair. Overnight, partly cloudy conditions will persist in the Himalayan and Hilly regions of Koshi Province and the Himalayan belts of Bagmati and Gandaki, with the possibility of light rain or snowfall at one or two locations in Koshi's Himalayan region. The remaining Himalayan, Hilly and Terai regions are expected to clear to mainly fair weather through the night. The department said Nepal remains under the partial influence of westerly and local winds.
