Nepal Police arrest 2,396 absconding convicts in Chaitra

KATHMANDU, APRIL 24 Nepal Police arrested a total of 2,396 absconding convicts across the country during Chaitra of the current fiscal year 2082/83, as part of its judgment execution drive. According to police data, the arrests led to the recovery of fines worth Rs 508.28 million. The detained individuals were sentenced to a combined imprisonment of 909 years, one month and 25 days. Among provinces, the highest number of arrests was recorded in the Kathmandu Valley with 504 individuals, followed by Koshi Province with 474 and Madhesh Province with 379. Bagmati Province reported 378 arrests, Lumbini 303, Gandaki 158, Sudurpashchim 133 and Karnali 55. In terms of fines collected, the Kathmandu Valley topped the list with Rs 60.31 million, followed by Bagmati Province with Rs 22.95 million and Koshi Province with Rs 26.96 million. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) separately reported 12 arrests, with the highest recovery of fines amounting to Rs 339.79 million. Police said the campaign is part of ongoing efforts to enforce court verdicts and bring absconding offenders under the legal framework.
