Ten killed in natural disasters across Nepal in 24 hours

KATHMANDU, APRIL 27 At least ten people have died in natural disaster incidents across Nepal over the past 24 hours, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). A total of 69 disaster-related incidents were reported nationwide during the period, leaving 25 others injured, the authority said. According to NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat, five of the fatalities were caused by lightning strikes. Two people died due to high-altitude sickness, while one death each was attributed to a fire, a snakebite, and an animal attack. Lightning-related incidents were particularly widespread, with 38 such cases reported, injuring 19 people. Property worth approximately Rs 3.8 million was destroyed in the incidents, which were recorded across 52 districts. Over the past 14 days, natural disasters have claimed 33 lives and injured 121 people nationwide. During the same period, a total of 544 disaster-related incidents were reported, according to the authority.
