Rain, thunderstorms likely across country

KATHMANDU, MAY 1 The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast generally cloudy conditions across most parts of the country on Friday, with chances of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. According to the Division, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, along with the hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpashchim, will remain generally cloudy, while parts of the Sudurpashchim Terai will see partly cloudy skies. There is a possibility of moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, gusty winds and hail at some places in the hilly and Himalayan regions, including Koshi, Madhesh and Lumbini provinces. Light to moderate rain is also likely at a few places in the Terai of Bagmati and Gandaki, and at isolated locations in Sudurpashchim. Tonight, similar weather conditions are expected to persist, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms likely at some places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few places in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim. The country is currently under the influence of westerly and local winds, along with a low-pressure system over the eastern region. Major cities forecast: Kathmandu is likely to witness light rain with thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging between 23–25°C during the day and 14–16°C at night. Pokhara is expected to receive moderate rain, while Biratnagar, Dharan and Janakpur may also experience rainfall with thunderstorms. In the western region, Nepalgunj and Dhangadi are likely to see light rain during the day with partly cloudy conditions at night.
