RAUTAHAT, MAY 1 Police have arrested a man accused of murdering his own father nearly 18 years ago in a case driven by financial motives and personal disputes. According to the District Police Office, Rautahat, the accused, Ram Bilas Mahato, was apprehended from Chitwan on April 29 after remaining absconding since the incident in 2064 BS. Police said 68-year-old Bishesh Mahato Koiri of Garuda Municipality–1 (then Jayamnagar–4) was brutally killed on the night of Jestha 20, 2064 BS. The accused had fled along with his family shortly after the incident. Investigations revealed that Mahato, the youngest son of the victim, was involved in the murder. He allegedly committed the crime with the intention of evading debt and implicating rivals in a murder case. Police stated that the victim was tied up while asleep and attacked with a sharp weapon on multiple parts of the body. Preliminary investigation suggests the murder was premeditated, motivated by financial pressure, debt burden, and land disputes. Mahato has been taken into custody, and further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
