Labour Minister Yadav announces OSH plan, loans, and outreach for workers

KATHMANDU, MAY 1 Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Ramji Yadav has unveiled three key initiatives on the occasion of the 137th International Workers' Day. In a video message today, the minister launched a five-year National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Programme aimed at ensuring workers' rights to safety, health and a secure working environment. He also announced weekly Facebook Live sessions to be hosted by labour attachés or consular officials at Nepali missions abroad, facilitating direct communication, information sharing and problem-solving for Nepali migrant workers. Additionally, workers affiliated with the contribution-based Social Security Fund will be eligible for loans at a six per cent interest rate to purchase housing plots, with provisions to borrow up to Rs 15 million as per existing rules. Minister Yadav said the government is advancing policy reforms, institutional restructuring and job creation programmes, reiterating its commitment to fair wages, improved working conditions and labour rights across all sectors. He also called for greater recognition of workers' contributions to nation-building and mutual respect in society.
