Cloudy skies nationwide; rain, thunderstorms likely in several provinces

KATHMANDU, MAY 4 The Meteorological Forecasting Division has said generally cloudy conditions will prevail across the country today, with rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely in many areas. According to the Division, light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder, lightning and occasional hail is expected at a few places in Sudurpaschim, Karnali and Lumbini provinces, as well as in the hilly and mountainous regions. Similar conditions are also likely at some places in the Terai. One or two places in these provinces may witness heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning. Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy nationwide, with chances of light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, gusty winds and hail at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions and some parts of the Terai. The country is currently under the influence of westerly and local winds, along with a low-pressure system near the eastern region. An east–west low-pressure trough located to the south of Nepal is also affecting the weather. Major city forecast In Kathmandu, moderate rain with thundershowers is expected during the day, with temperatures ranging between 24–26°C, while light rain with thunderstorms is likely at night with temperatures dropping to 15–17°C. Pokhara is also likely to witness moderate rain with thundershowers both during the day and at night. In Dhangadi and Dipayal, moderate rain with thundershowers is forecast during the day with a high probability of precipitation. Similarly, Biratnagar and Janakpur are expected to experience light rain with thunderstorms during the day and moderate rain at night. Other areas, including Nepalgunj, Jumla, Ghorahi and Taplejung, are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The Division has advised the public to remain cautious due to possible impacts such as lightning, hailstorms and strong winds.
