KATHMANDU, MAY 6 The Department of Tourism has warned operators running adventure and recreational sports activities without proper authorisation to immediately cease operations and obtain mandatory permits within 30 days, or face legal action under prevailing law. The notice, issued by the department's Adventure and Recreational Tourism section, covers a range of activities including bungee jumping, swing, canyoning, sky diving, zip-line, zip coaster, jet ski, motorboat, and similar sports. All such activities must be conducted strictly in accordance with safety standards and only after obtaining legally required permits, with particular attention to safety sensitivity. The authority to issue permits to companies and organisations operating adventure and recreational tourism activities rests solely with the Department of Tourism under Section 45(a) of the Tourism Act 2035 and Section 93 of the Tourism Industry and Service Delivery Guidelines 2070. The department said it had received serious complaints about unlicensed adventure sports operations at various locations across the country. Operators currently running activities without permits have been directed to halt immediately and contact the department within 30 days with the necessary documentation to initiate the licensing process. Organisations that fail to do so, including those that do not even begin the permit process, will face legal action as provided under the law.
