Widespread rain, thunderstorms likely across hilly regions

KATHMANDU, MAY 8 The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted generally cloudy weather with widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country, particularly in hilly and mountainous regions. According to the Division, Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are expected to witness moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at many places today. Similar conditions are likely at some places in the hilly and mountainous regions of other provinces, including Madhesh. Light rain with thunder and lightning is also likely at a few places in the Terai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, while isolated rainfall is expected in Sudurpashchim. Tonight, hilly and mountainous regions will remain generally cloudy, with chances of moderate rainfall and thunderstorms at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Light rain or snowfall is also possible at isolated locations in other mountainous areas. The country is currently under the influence of a western low-pressure system, combined with local winds and a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere over eastern Nepal. Among major cities, Kathmandu is expected to record moderate rain with thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging between 22–24°C during the day. Pokhara and Jumla are also likely to experience moderate rainfall, while most Terai districts will see light rain with partial cloud cover.
