KATHMANDU, MAY 14 The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast generally cloudy conditions across Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, particularly in the hilly and Himalayan regions, for today. According to the 24-hour forecast issued at 8:00 AM, the Terai region will remain partly cloudy. There is a likelihood of moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few places in other hilly areas. Isolated rainfall is also expected in parts of Madhesh, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. Tonight, cloudy conditions are expected to persist in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, along with the Himalayan region. The Terai is likely to remain partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Koshi and Madhesh, and at isolated locations in Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces. Meteorological analysis indicates that the current weather pattern is influenced by a western low-pressure system, local winds and a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere. Major cities including Kathmandu and Pokhara are likely to witness moderate rainfall with thunderstorms today, while most other areas are expected to receive light rain with thunder activity.
