Rain, thunderstorms likely in hilly regions; heat to rise in Terai
Fair weather expected in most Terai areas despite heat

KATHMANDU, MAY 17 The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast generally cloudy weather in several parts of the country today, with chances of rain, thunderstorms and rising temperatures in the Terai. According to the Department, Koshi Province and the Himalayan and hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces will remain mostly cloudy, while the remaining areas are expected to see partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi Province and at a few locations in Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces. Isolated rainfall is also possible in Madhesh Province and parts of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim. Temperatures are expected to rise in the Terai regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, with mainly fair weather prevailing in most plains. Tonight, cloudy conditions are expected to persist in Koshi Province and the hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki, while the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to mainly fair weather. Light rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Koshi Province and at isolated locations in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Meteorological analysis indicates that the country is currently under the influence of westerly winds and local wind systems. Among major cities, Kathmandu, Pokhara and Biratnagar are expected to witness rain and thundershowers, while cities in the Terai are likely to remain mostly fair with higher temperatures. The Department has advised the public to remain cautious of thunderstorms, lightning and possible heat conditions in the plains.
