Heatwave likely in Lumbini, Sudurpashchim; rain forecast in hilly regions

KATHMANDU, MAY 21 The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast generally cloudy weather in Koshi Province and the hilly and mountainous regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces today, with chances of rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the country. According to the Division, moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely at a few places in Koshi Province and the hilly and Himalayan regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Light to moderate rainfall is also possible at one or two places in Madhesh Province, the hilly and mountainous regions of Lumbini and Karnali provinces, and parts of the Terai in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. The Division has also predicted hot daytime conditions in the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. Tonight, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with chances of moderate rain and thunderstorms at a few places in these provinces and isolated areas of Madhesh Province. The Department said the country is currently under the influence of westerly and local winds along with a low-pressure system near eastern Nepal. Among major cities, Pokhara, Kathmandu, Dhankuta, Biratnagar and Taplejung are likely to witness moderate rainfall with thunderstorms today. Dhangadi, Nepalgunj, Dipayal and Birendranagar are expected to experience hot weather, with temperatures ranging between 37 and 41 degrees Celsius.
