KATHMANDU, MAY 26 Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said the government is committed to improving the daily living standards of Nepali citizens through visible and practical reforms. During a joint meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Monday with ambassadors of the European Union and its member states based in Kathmandu and New Delhi, as well as other foreign envoys in Kathmandu, Prime Minister Shah said the government fully understands the urgency of the current situation and the responsibility entrusted to it. According to the Prime Minister's press and investigation expert Dipa Dahal, Prime Minister Shah said the recent election results in Nepal had delivered a clear public mandate for good governance and inclusive economic prosperity. He also assured diplomats that policy continuity would be maintained despite the formation of a new government. 'Being new does not mean being disconnected from the past,' Shah said, adding that the government remains committed to safeguarding democratic values and ensuring political stability through clear, stable and predictable policies. The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening governance and promoting inclusive economic growth. He said Nepal aims to benefit from the global market by simplifying investment procedures, encouraging innovation and advancing sustainable development to create new opportunities for citizens. Shah also stated that Nepal would continue to pursue a balanced and pragmatic foreign policy guided by mutual respect, sovereign equality and shared prosperity in its relations with neighbouring countries, development partners and friendly nations. Expressing gratitude to development partners and friendly countries for their continued support to Nepal's development and prosperity, the Prime Minister said the government was keen to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, green energy, climate action and tourism, among other sectors. Referring to ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world, Shah stressed that civilians continue to suffer the most and underscored the need to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy and international law over military confrontation to maintain peace. During the meeting, EU ambassadors and other foreign envoys congratulated Nepal for conducting peaceful elections and congratulated Prime Minister Shah on assuming leadership of the new government with a mandate for good governance, economic growth and prosperity. They also expressed readiness to expand cooperation and investment in various sectors in Nepal.
