Rain likely in several provinces, heat wave to persist in western Terai

KATHMANDU, MAY 27 The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in several parts of the country on Wednesday, while heat wave conditions are expected to continue in parts of the western Terai. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, generally cloudy conditions are likely in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces today, while the remaining hilly and Himalayan regions will witness partly cloudy weather and most Terai areas will remain mainly fair. The department said there is a possibility of light to moderate rain, thundershowers and snowfall at a few places in Koshi and Madhesh provinces, including the hilly and Himalayan regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Similar weather conditions are also likely in some hilly areas of Lumbini Province and at one or two places in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Hot day conditions are likely in the Terai districts of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. Dhangadi and Nepalgunj are expected to experience heat wave conditions, with temperatures ranging between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius. Pokhara, Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta and Taplejung are likely to receive moderate rain with thundershowers during the day. For tonight, the department has forecast generally cloudy conditions over Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with chances of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in several hilly and mountainous areas. The department also warned of possible gusty winds in parts of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. According to the department, the current weather system is being influenced by westerly and local winds along with a low-pressure area near the eastern region of Nepal.
