Man arrested at TIA with foreign currency worth nearly Rs 5.5 million

KATHMANDU, JUNE 3 Police have arrested a man from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) while attempting to fly to Malaysia with foreign currency worth nearly Rs 5.5 million, on Tuesday. The arrested has been identified as 50-year-old Kamal Narayan Bishwas of Gadhi Rural Municipality-1, Sunsari. According to police, he was detained from the international departure baggage screening area while preparing to board a Batik Air flight to Malaysia. Police recovered Rs 1.1 million in Nepali currency, USD 14,850, Japanese Yen 41,000, Swiss Franc 1,000, Malaysian Ringgit 23,632, Sri Lankan Rupees 7,770, Pakistani Rupees 3,540 and Omani Riyals 2,970 from his luggage. He has been sent to the Department of Revenue Investigation in Hariharbhawan, Lalitpur for further investigation and legal action.
