KATHMANDU, JUNE 7 Weather conditions across Nepal are expected to remain mixed today, with generally cloudy skies in the eastern and mountainous regions and hot weather persisting in parts of the southern plains, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Koshi Province and the Himalayan belt are likely to remain generally cloudy, while hilly areas of Madhesh Province may see partly cloudy conditions. The remaining Terai region is expected to experience mainly fair weather. The Department has forecast moderate rainfall, snowfall, thunder and lightning at several places in Koshi Province and in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces. One or two locations in Madhesh and other hilly and mountainous areas may also receive light to moderate precipitation. Meanwhile, hot day conditions are expected to persist in parts of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces, with heatwave-like conditions likely in some Terai areas. At night, cloudy conditions will continue in Koshi and the Himalayan region, while other hill areas may see partly cloudy skies. The Terai is expected to remain mainly fair, though light rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is possible in scattered areas. Meteorologists say the country is currently under the partial influence of an upper-level western trough along with local wind systems, contributing to unstable weather conditions. In the Valley, Kathmandu is expected to witness light rain and thunderstorms during the day, with moderate showers likely at night. Pokhara is forecast to experience moderate rain with thundershowers throughout the day and night. In the plains, temperatures are expected to remain high, with Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa likely to record hot day conditions reaching up to 40°C, while Janakpur and Biratnagar may also experience thunderstorms alongside warm conditions. Higher hill and mountain stations, including Taplejung, Okhaldhunga, Jiri and Jumla, are likely to see moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning, with occasional snowfall in higher elevations.
