KATHMANDU, JUNE 8 Intense heat is expected to persist across large parts of the Tarai on Monday, with temperatures in some districts forecast to approach 40 degrees Celsius, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM). The department has projected hot day conditions in several areas of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, even as rain and thunderstorms are likely in some hilly and mountainous regions. Among the hottest locations, Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj are expected to record maximum temperatures between 38°C and 40°C, while Dipayal and Bhairahawa could see temperatures rise to around 39°C. Janakpur, Simara and Birendranagar are also forecast to experience temperatures above 35°C. Meteorologists said the heat is being driven by prevailing local weather conditions and limited rainfall across the southern plains. Most Tarai districts are expected to witness mainly fair weather, allowing daytime temperatures to remain high. While eastern and central hill regions may receive scattered rain and thunderstorms, the Tarai is likely to see little relief from the heat in the coming days. The DHM has urged people, particularly children, the elderly and outdoor workers, to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses by staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.
