Police detain 92 in anti-drug sweep operation in Jhapa

KATHMANDU, JUNE 17 Police in Jhapa have detained 92 people, including suspected drug users and traffickers, during a two-day anti-narcotics sweep operation conducted across the district. A special team from the District Police Office, the Narcotics Control Bureau branch in Kakarbhitta and subordinate police units carried out the operation on Monday and Tuesday. Police said 83 drug users, including four women, and nine suspected traffickers were taken into custody. The operation led to the seizure of 38.91 grams of a brown heroin-like substance and 3.9 grams of marijuana. Among those arrested are alleged drug traffickers Bikash Bhujel, 27, of Damak and Sarita Rajbanshi, 30, of Bhadrapur, who were found in possession of over six grams of brown heroin. Police said investigations into the nine suspects are underway, while other detainees are being provided counselling and may be referred to rehabilitation centres as required.
