KATHMANDU, JUNE 20 More than 700,000 domestic and foreign tourists entered Mustang via Myagdi in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2082/83, according to police records. A total of 705,754 tourists entered Mustang through the Ghansa checkpoint along the Beni–Jomsom road, the only highway connecting the district with the national road network. According to District Police Office data, 460,924 Nepali tourists and 244,830 foreign tourists entered the Himalayan district between Shrawan and Jestha. The movement was recorded through 151,160 vehicles. Police Inspector Santosh Basyal said tourist arrivals peaked in Jestha, when 90,939 foreign and 40,838 domestic tourists entered the district. Officials said Indian tourists account for around 80 percent of foreign arrivals, with travel demand increasing during the summer season as Indian visitors opt for destinations like Pokhara and Mustang. The flow of tourists also increased during a series of public holidays in late Jestha, when Mustang became a preferred domestic destination. Key attractions such as Muktinath Temple, Kagbeni rituals, Korala border area and Lo Manthang continue to draw large numbers of visitors, supported by Mustang's unique landscape, culture and biodiversity. Hotel occupancy along the Beni–Jomsom corridor, including Beni, Galeshwor, Tatopani and Dana, has remained high during peak travel periods. (With inputs from RSS)
