UML Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel arrested on money laundering charge

KATHMANDU, JUNE 22 Police on Monday arrested Vice Chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Bishnu Paudel, on a charge of money laundering. According to Superintendent of Police Thakur Prasad Paudel, chief of the District Police Office, Surkhet, Paudel was arrested at around 6 pm from the hall of Shubh Hotel in Birendranagar-3, Surkhet. Police said Paudel was taken by road to Nepalgunj and would be flown to Kathmandu later for further investigation. However, it has been reported that he will be flown tomorrow, citing security concerns. Paudel had arrived in Surkhet to participate in a UML programme aimed at collecting suggestions on the party's election review and organisational restructuring. A former finance minister, Paudel is originally from Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-9 in Rupandehi and currently resides in the Saibu Housing Project in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-25.
