KATHMANDU, JUNE 23 The European Union has launched two new regional aviation safety initiatives in Kathmandu under the EU-South Asia Aviation Partnership Project to strengthen aviation cooperation with Nepal and South Asia. The first initiative, the third module of the Regional Aviation Safety Programme (RASP), is being held from June 23 to 25 in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and aircraft manufacturer ATR. The programme focuses on crew training and operational standards, including decision-making, operational resilience and fatigue management. Speaking at the opening session, Chargé d'Affaires at the EU Delegation to Nepal Thomas Millar said the EU recognised Nepal government's efforts to address concerns raised by the European Commission and welcomed the recent submission of the corrective action plan package. He said the European Union and its member states remained committed to supporting Nepal in achieving international aviation safety standards. Kathmandu will also host a workshop on Regulatory Updates in Continuing Airworthiness from June 29 to July 2 under the South Asia Regional Initiative. The workshop will examine recent developments in European Union Aviation Safety Agency regulations and oversight practices. The EU said the initiatives demonstrate growing regional cooperation and reinforce Nepal's role as a platform for aviation dialogue in South Asia while supporting safer and more resilient air transport systems in the region.
