NEPSE falls 16 points as turnover drops to Rs 2.67 billion

KATHMANDU, JUNE 29 The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) extended its losing streak on Monday, with the benchmark index falling 16.54 points, or 0.62 percent, to close at 2,632.96 points. Market activity also weakened, with daily turnover dropping to Rs 2.67 billion from Rs 3.49 billion recorded on Friday. A total of 2.69 million shares of 351 listed companies were traded through 44,942 transactions during the day's session. The Sensitive Index, which tracks the performance of Class 'A' companies, declined 0.40 percent, while the Float Index slipped 0.56 percent. All sectoral indices ended in negative territory. The Non-life Insurance sector posted the biggest decline, dropping 1.39 percent, followed by Hotels and Tourism at 1.14 percent and the Finance sector at 1.13 percent. Losses in the remaining sectors were below one percent. Investor sentiment remained weak, with 240 stocks declining, 29 advancing, and six remaining unchanged. Despite the broader market downturn, Taksar Pikhuwa Khola Hydropower Ltd (TPKHL), Yambaling Hydropower Ltd (YMHL) and Snow Rivers Ltd (SNORL) surged 14.99 percent each, narrowly missing the 15 percent upper circuit limit. Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd (DLBS) also gained 14.98 percent, emerging among the day's top performers. By the end of the day, the total market capitalization stood at Rs 4.509 trillion.
