Gold, silver jewellery concealed in US-bound cargo seized at TIA

KATHMANDU, JUNLY 2 Police have arrested two people after suspected gold and silver jewellery concealed inside a cargo shipment destined for the United States was intercepted at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). According to the Tribhuvan International Airport Security Office, the jewellery was discovered during the inspection of a cargo box declared as containing shoes, sarees and other clothing. Preliminary investigation showed that the consignment was being shipped from Kathmandu to the United States through Unique Cargo using the services of Apex Logistics. Police arrested Yagyaraj Subedi (46), proprietor of Apex Logistics, and Ram Prasad Dahal (34) of Unique Cargo in connection with the case. Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Silwal said both suspects, along with the seized items, have been handed over to the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office at Gauchar for further legal action. The seized items include 22 large and 44 small pieces of Naugedi jewellery, 14 pieces of Duigedi ornaments and 20 pieces of Jantar, all believed to be made of gold and silver. Authorities are conducting further investigation.
