KATHMANDU, JULY 8 Police arrested two men carrying an illegal firearm and ammunition in Gadhi Rural Municipality-1 of Sunsari early Wednesday. According to Sunsari Police Chief Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar Thebe, a patrol team from Chandbela Police Post apprehended Nur Mohammad of Biratnagar-17 and Imran Khan alias Mohammad Ahmad of Biratnagar-8 at around 1:20 am. Police recovered a Chinese-made pistol, one magazine and three rounds of ammunition from their possession. The two suspects have been taken into custody at the Area Police Office, Duhabi, for further investigation. Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Nur Mohammad had previously served a 12-year prison sentence after being convicted in a 2007 case involving illegal arms and attempted rape. Records also show that Imran Khan was booked in a theft case registered in Morang in 2018. SP Thebe said investigations are underway to determine the source of the firearm, its intended use and whether the suspects were linked to any planned criminal activity.
