RAMECHHAP, JULY 17 A vegetable and fruit cold storage centre built in Manthali Municipality-1, Sanimadau of Ramechhap has undergone operational testing and is set to come into immediate operation, offering a major boost to local farmers. Bagmati Province Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Madhusudan Poudel inaugurated the testing of the facility and inspected its equipment and refrigeration system. The inspection reviewed the operational readiness, functionality of equipment and management preparations. The cold storage centre was constructed under a cost-sharing arrangement between the Bagmati Province Government and Manthali Municipality at a total cost of Rs 53 million. Although construction had been completed earlier, the facility had remained non-operational for some time. Authorities said it will now begin regular operation after the remaining administrative procedures are completed. Minister Poudel said the facility would enable vegetable and fruit growers in Ramechhap to safely store their produce, reduce post-harvest losses and secure better market prices. He stressed the need for effective operation of such infrastructure to strengthen agricultural marketing and increase farmers' incomes. Manthali Municipality Mayor Lava Shrestha said the testing was completed in coordination with the provincial government and that the centre would be brought into operation after final technical and administrative formalities. Local farmers welcomed the development, saying the cold storage will allow them to preserve fruits and vegetables instead of selling immediately after harvest. They expressed hope the facility will help them sell when market conditions are favourable, particularly during the summer season when produce spoils quickly.
