HETAUDA, JULY 18 CPN-UML ministers in the Bagmati Province government have been instructed to resign amid growing uncertainty over the continuation of the Nepali Congress–UML coalition. Jagannath Thapaliya, leader of the UML parliamentary party in Bagmati Province, directed the party's ministers to leave the government on Saturday. Thapaliya said the decision was taken after concluding that the UML could no longer continue in the coalition under the changed political circumstances. 'We have concluded that there is no need for the UML to remain in the coalition by force. Accordingly, the ministers have been instructed to leave the government,' he said. The ministers are expected to submit their resignations either Saturday or Sunday, depending on the political situation, Thapaliya said. The Bagmati provincial government currently has six UML ministers. Following a restructuring of the provincial cabinet, the number of ministries was reduced from 14 to eight from July 17. Eight ministers have been assigned portfolios, while six-including the UML ministers-have been retained as ministers without portfolios. The UML ministers currently in the Bagmati government are Madhusudan Paudel, Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Forest and Environment; Bindu Shrestha, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Labour and Transport; and Dr Dinesh Chandra Devkota, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development. Kiran Thapa Magar, Jayaram Shrestha and Bharat Bahadur KC are serving as ministers without portfolio.
