KATHMANDU, JULY 20 Continuous rainfall has disrupted traffic on at least nine major highways across Nepal, with landslides and flooding causing complete and partial closures in several districts, Nepal Police said Monday. Among the worst-hit routes, the Mechi Highway has been completely blocked by landslides at Rajduwali in Ilam and Khobare Khola in Panchthar's Yangwarak Rural Municipality-1. The Mid-Hills Highway has also been affected, with the Diktel–Bhojpur section at Matekhola in Khotang closed, while one-way traffic is operating in Bhojpur Municipality-5 following flooding. In Bagmati Province, authorities have suspended traffic along the BP Highway due to flood risks, while vehicular movement on the Kathmandu–Hetauda Kanti Highway has been halted until further notice amid heightened landslide threats. Landslides have also blocked the Araniko Highway at Jurekhola and Kodari in Sindhupalchok's Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality. In Rasuwa, traffic is being managed one-way along the Pasang Lhamu Highway at Bokrejhunda in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-6. The Prithvi Highway remains heavily affected, with a landslide at Phisling in Chitwan's Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality blocking traffic. In Dhading, vehicles are operating one-way in Benighat-Rorang, while the Jawang Khola section has been completely closed due to fresh landslides. Police warned that persistent rainfall continues to increase the risk of floods, landslides and road washouts. Travellers have been advised to seek updated road and weather information from relevant authorities before undertaking long-distance journeys.
