Discussion held on Cell Broadcasting for Early Warning

KATHMANDU, JULY 20 Stakeholders held discussions on the use of a mobile phone broadcasting system as part of Nepal's integrated early warning mechanism for disaster risk reduction. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the system, known as Cell Broadcasting for Early Warning, is a key component of an integrated early warning framework. The technology enables disaster alerts and warning messages to be transmitted through mobile communication networks to all mobile phones located within a targeted geographical area simultaneously. The meeting was chaired by NDRRMA Executive Chief Pradeep Kumar Koirala and attended by Suresh Panthi, chief of the Disaster and Conflict Management Division at the Ministry of Home Affairs, as a special guest. Representatives from federal ministries and agencies associated with disaster management and broadcasting sectors also participated in the discussion.
