KATHMANDU, JULY 21 Continuous rainfall and monsoon-induced floods and landslides have disrupted vehicular movement on 19 highways across the country, with seven routes completely blocked and 12 operating partially, according to the Department of Roads (DoR). The department said 51 road sections affected by recent disaster incidents have already been reopened after clearance operations, while efforts are ongoing to restore traffic on the remaining blocked routes. DoR spokesperson Shyam Bahadur Khadka said heavy equipment, including dozers, excavators and loaders, has been deployed to remove debris and reopen affected roads. He urged travellers and transport operators to obtain updated road condition reports before undertaking journeys. According to Nepal Police, highways currently closed to traffic include sections of the Kanti Highway, Mechi Highway, Diktel–Bhojpur road, Tatopani road at Jurikhola in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4, and the Araniko Highway. Vehicular movement is being partially operated on several routes, including sections of the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur and the Pasang Lhamu Highway. Meanwhile, night-time traffic has been restricted on the BP Highway due to the risk of flooding and other weather-related hazards.
