KATHMANDU, JULY 23 The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to provide Rs 1.571 million in compensation and treatment support to a child who lost both arms after suffering an electric shock from an 11 kV transmission line in Nawalparasi (Susta East). The decision was approved by a recent meeting of the NEA Board of Directors. The child was injured while playing on the premises of an Ama Samuha building in Tribeni Rural Municipality–2. According to the NEA, the compensation amount will be disbursed to the victim's family through its Susta East Distribution Centre. Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the assistance was approved in line with existing legal provisions and past practices. He also directed the NEA to strengthen inspection and maintenance of power infrastructure, enhance monitoring in high-risk areas, improve public safety awareness, and ensure timely dissemination of information to local communities to prevent similar incidents.
