KATHMANDU, JULY 24 The Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DMLI) filed seven money laundering cases in the fiscal year 2025/26, naming 121 individuals as defendants and seeking damages of nearly Rs 118.05 billion. According to data released by the department on Thursday, complaints related to money laundering and terrorist financing are first reviewed by a screening committee. Cases requiring preliminary investigation are then assigned to investigation officers before formal proceedings begin. The department operates four investigation divisions, supported by legal and advisory, administration and planning, investigation coordination, and police units to conduct inquiries and prosecutions. The DMLI investigates offences linked to revenue leakage, customs, excise duties and trade-related crimes. Officials said the department has recently intensified research, investigations and enforcement efforts to strengthen action against money laundering offences.
