KATHMANDU, JULY 26 The Government of India has launched the construction of a new school building for Shree Maheshwar Secondary School in Kanchanpur district with a financial grant of approximately Rs 19 million, under its High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) programme in Nepal. The foundation stone was jointly laid Saturday by Basist Nandan, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Nilam Lekhak Joshi, Deputy Chief of Bhimdatta Municipality, at the school located in Ward No. 10 of Bhimdatta Municipality. According to the Indian Embassy, the project will be implemented through Bhimdatta Municipality and is the 11th HICDP supported by India in Kanchanpur district. The new school infrastructure is expected to improve the learning environment for students and teachers. Speaking at the ceremony, representatives of Bhimdatta Municipality and other stakeholders appreciated India's continued development assistance and expressed confidence that the new building would strengthen educational facilities in the municipality. The embassy said the project reflects the broader development partnership between Nepal and India, with HICDPs supporting infrastructure development in priority sectors and complementing Nepal's efforts to promote local growth and development. India has been supporting community-level infrastructure projects across Nepal through the HICDP framework in sectors including education, health and public infrastructure.
