KATHMANDU, JULY 28 Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly regions of five provinces on Tuesday as the monsoon system continues to affect the entire country, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said. Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are likely to receive heavy rain during the day, while heavy rainfall may continue in parts of the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces tonight. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is forecast at many places across the country's hilly regions. Rain and thundershowers are also likely at several places in the Terai of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and at isolated places in the Terai of Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces and Madhesh Province. The mountainous regions may receive light to moderate rain and snowfall at a few places during the day, according to the department's 24-hour forecast issued at 8 am. The department said the monsoon trough is currently near its normal position over eastern Nepal but lies north of its usual position over the western part of the country. Rain expected in Kathmandu and Pokhara Kathmandu is likely to experience moderate rain with thundershowers during both the day and night. The maximum temperature in the Valley is expected to remain between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may range from 19 to 21 degrees Celsius. Pokhara is also forecast to receive moderate rain and thundershowers throughout the day and night, with a 70 per cent chance of rainfall during both periods. Temperatures are expected to range from 31 to 33 degrees Celsius during the day and 22 to 24 degrees Celsius at night. Moderate rain and thundershowers are also likely in Dadeldhura, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Okhaldhunga, Jomsom, Jiri and Taplejung. Meanwhile, light rain and thundershowers are forecast in several other major cities, including Dhangadi, Birendranagar, Bhairahawa, Simara, Biratnagar, Dharan and Janakpur. The department said generally cloudy conditions are expected across the country's hilly and mountainous regions, while parts of the southern plains are likely to remain partly cloudy.
