CHITWAN, JULY 28 The Narayanghat–Muglin road, which was blocked by a dry landslide near Muglin on Tuesday morning, has reopened to two-way traffic after debris was cleared from the roadway. The landslide occurred at around 8:30 am near Khahare Khola in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality–5, obstructing traffic along the major highway linking Kathmandu with Chitwan and other parts of the country. According to Chief Inspector Anil Thapa, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Chitwan, two-way vehicular movement resumed at 1:15 pm after road-clearing work was completed. Earlier, authorities had opened one lane at around 11:15 am to allow ambulances and motorcycles to pass through the affected section. Heavy equipment was deployed from both sides of the road to remove the debris. A loader, excavator and backhoe were mobilised from the Narayanghat side, while another loader was deployed from Muglin. Police said rocks and dry debris had fallen from approximately 40 metres above the road. The incident marked the first reported landslide at the location. With the road reopened, vehicles stranded on both sides of the obstruction have begun moving towards their destinations. The Narayanghat–Muglin road is considered a vital transport corridor and a key lifeline connecting Kathmandu with Chitwan and western Nepal. More than 10,000 vehicles travel along the route daily.
