KATHMANDU, JULY 30 Local administrations in Dhanusha and Siraha on Thursday imposed curfews in selected areas following security concerns after recent unrest in Sunsari, while authorities stepped up measures to maintain public order in parts of the eastern Tarai. The District Administration Offices (DAOs) of Dhanusha and Siraha issued separate curfew orders on the recommendation of their respective District Security Committees, restricting movement, public gatherings, demonstrations, rallies and other activities in designated areas until further notice. In Dhanusha, the curfew came into effect from 3:30 pm in parts of Janakpurdham and adjoining areas, including Laxminiya Haat Bazaar, Sinurjoda, Laxmipur, Beloni Road, Nagarain Chowk and nearby localities. In Siraha, separate curfew orders were enforced in Lahan Municipality from 5:00 pm and in Golbazar Municipality from 2:00 pm, covering designated sections along the East-West Highway and surrounding areas identified by the district administration. The curfew orders followed incidents of tension and clashes reported in parts of Siraha earlier in the day. Police said security personnel had been mobilised to maintain law and order, while the local administration urged residents to comply with the restrictions. The latest measures come as security remains tightened in Dewanganj, Sunsari, where a curfew imposed after recent violence remains in force. The government has also formed a five-member committee to investigate the Sunsari incident and submit its report within a week. Meanwhile, the District Police Office, Rautahat, urged the public not to post or share misleading photos or videos on social media falsely linking the recent Sunsari incident to Rautahat. In a statement issued on Thursday, police said some social media users had circulated old photographs and videos from the September 2025 Gen-Z movement, presenting them as recent incidents from Rautahat. Police said an investigation had been launched into the matter. The district police warned that sharing unverified or misleading information that could disturb public peace, security and social harmony is punishable under existing laws, including the Electronic Transactions Act and the National Penal Code, and urged the public to verify information before sharing it online.
