KALAIYA, AUGUST 1 Authorities and local stakeholders organised goodwill rallies in Bara district on Saturday, calling for communal harmony and social unity in the wake of recent tensions reported in different parts of the country following the Sunsari incident. The main rally, organised by the District Administration Office (DAO), Bara, was held in the district headquarters, Kalaiya, with the participation of around 400 people, including people's representatives, leaders of various political parties, security officials, religious leaders, civil society members, journalists, government employees and local residents. Chief District Officer Dharmendra Mishra said the rally was organised to promote mutual harmony, tolerance, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence among all communities amid recent developments in several districts. Addressing a corner meeting at Bharat Chowk after the rally, federal lawmakers, provincial assembly members and security officials urged people to remain united against discrimination based on caste or religion. Speakers stressed the need to preserve social harmony, communal goodwill and mutual respect among people of different faiths and communities. According to police, the rally marched through the main areas of Kalaiya under the security supervision of 95 personnel from Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Army. A similar goodwill rally was also organised in Nijgadh Municipality with the participation of representatives of political parties, social campaigners and local residents. The peaceful procession, attended by around 200 people, began from Shahid Chowk in Ward No. 7 and passed through the town before concluding at Buddha Chowk. Organisers said the programme aimed to send a message of national unity and communal harmony across the eastern Tarai-Madhesh region amid the prevailing social atmosphere.
