HETAUDA, AUGUST 1 A large social harmony rally was held in Hetauda, the capital of Bagmati Province, on Saturday, with participants calling for communal harmony, social unity and religious tolerance amid recent tensions in parts of the country. The rally was organised in line with a decision of an all-party district meeting coordinated by the Makwanpur District Administration Office. Representatives of political parties, business groups, civil society organisations, security agencies and members of the public took part. The procession began from Huprachaur and passed through Main Road, School Road, Buddha Chowk and the Makwanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry before concluding at Sangam Chowk, where a public gathering was held. Addressing the gathering, Makwanpur Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari said Nepal's multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious and multicultural character required everyone to uphold social harmony and national unity. He urged people not to take the law into their own hands, refrain from spreading or believing rumours and misinformation, and work collectively to preserve social cohesion. Adhikari also appealed to the public not to share misleading, provocative or inflammatory content on social media, warning that anyone found involved in activities that disturb public harmony would face legal action. He further urged people to immediately inform security agencies about any suspicious or unlawful activities.
