DHANGADI, AUGUST 3 Authorities in Kailali district have made official identification mandatory for people entering Nepal through border checkpoints with India, stepping up security measures amid heightened sensitivity following recent incidents in parts of the country. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the District Administration Office, Kailali, under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Hiralal Regmi, with participation from civil society representatives, religious leaders and community stakeholders. The meeting resolved to strengthen vigilance to maintain peace, public security and communal harmony in view of recent incidents of religious tension and social unrest reported elsewhere in the country. Under the new arrangement, anyone entering Nepal through border points in Kailali from India must produce an official identity document. The administration also urged the public to refrain from activities that could hurt the religious sentiments of any community, including making provocative remarks, displaying weapons or objects such as sticks and spears, or using social media to spread religious hatred or misinformation. As part of the measures, local governments have been directed to form or reactivate religious and social harmony coordination committees.
